Boat at Sorok-Do
This image was captured on my epic circumnavigation of the South Korean peninsula in an old Hyundai. I had visited the islands of Wando, Jeju-Do and U-Do in the Korean Strait and the plan was to go back to the mainland to visit the island of Adong-Do 오동도, only a hundred yards off shore from that side. Adong-do is an island of great beauty from November to the beginning of May when its very own variety of scarlet azalea trees bloom, turning the whole island scarlet.
Sorok-Do 소록도 is a nearby island of equal beauty known for its leper colony. I made a mistake and went to Sorok-Do. I do not regret this mistake because mistakes have meaning. It was meant to be. I made the capture “Boat at Sorok-Do”and have derived much pleasure in doing so.

I have been enjoying the serenity of this image, the different shades of blue and green are so rich in colour, yet it is the whiteness of the lone seagull that captured my eye first and still does!

Nature’s Child: I’m glad you felt the serenity. For me it had to do with the thick canopy of the woods isolating the interior of the island from the rest of the world. If not for the gull, this transparency may have been relegated to the shredder. Thanks for commenting.

I loved film, especially Kodachrome 25 and 64. It took me years to master it, and when I finally did Kodachrome was discontinued and digital photography was in. That’s life!
