When I made this capture, my first thought was a NYC pigeon on vacation in Arizona practicing his fence walkin’ on a bent over branch of a saguaro skeleton. Turns out he’s actually a morning dove…much less annoying than a NYC pigeon.

  1. Leanne Cole: Thanks for liking “Dove, Fence Walkin’. On a serious note: When I raised my camera (handheld), the dove was left of center in the frame, but I already knew I wanted him over by the right frame so I waited as he goosestepped his way up the saguaro skeleton. When he got there, I made the capture while one foot was raised in the air.

  2. Jackie: I’m glad you liked “Dove, Fence Walkin’ “. It was not that hard to capture this morning dove about to leave the right hand frame and my life forever. The eagle eye and razor sharp reflexes of Henri Cartier-Bresson would have been overkill. It was a slow, methodical, high stepping, militaristic ascent/march (unusual for a dove).

  3. Man of many thoughts: Thanks for liking “Dove, Fence Walkin’“. I was drawn to the surrealistic quality of the saguaro skeleton scorched by the Arizona sun. It almost appears to be melting, giving the image a Salvador Dalí-esque effect.
