Sunburst, Joshua Tree National Park
Sunburst – Joshua Tree National Park, California, USA
I made this capture on the same day as Surreal Yucca and Desert Bouquet only at sunset. This particular Joshua tree caught my eye about an hour before sunset so I had plenty of time to plant my tripod where I determined the sun would set between the fork in the tree. Of course there’s always a mad dash at the very end when you realize your calculations are somewhat off the mark. A small aperture was employed (f/16 on a 50mm lens) to get a star-burst effect.

Hi Shannon. Having been a National Monument since 1936, Joshua Tree became a National Park in 1994 as part of the Desert Protection Act. As you can see, it is a jewel of the desert!

It certainly is! I especially like that this was film, not digital.

I did it the hard way!…but seriously, I’m so glad that I had an extensive film background before going digital. It makes you see more photographically. There are boundaries that cannot be breached. If they are, it is something other than photography. I’m glad you liked this Shannon.

Nature’s Child. As soon as Joshua Tree received NP status, plans were set in motion to construct the largest landfill in California just outside its boundaries. It took many years, but Californians have finally buried the project in opposition. “Sunburst, Joshua Tree National Park” is a testament to it’s beauty.

And beautiful it is, actually stunning!
This image could not have come at a better time for me. We got hit with a 14 hour snow storm, then the temp dropped to below zero.
When I got to work I checked to see what you had posted and its warmth, beauty, serenity, just melted away the snow and cold,
I sat and had a cup of tea and just gazed in wonder at the depth of peaceful beauty that is buried in this image.
Is is for sale?
