But 1 5/8″ long, this seashell is a gift of the sea. Sinuous of line and form and cloaked in luxuriant black, it stands sensuously before the camera to be captured.

  1. Leanne Cole. Thanks for liking my second art photo captured with my new Nikon D810 and new Nikkor 105mm macro lens. It’s quite a combination. Hope you had a great Holiday Season and best of luck to you in 2015.

    • Thanks Lezlie. I got the project idea for a series of large prints of diminutive subjects a year ago, but realized my 6-7 year old, 12 MP Nikon D3 wasn’t up to the task. The new D810 has 36 MP so no interpolation will be needed to rez-up the files for large prints, resulting in higher quality prints. Another hurdle was I didn’t have a macro lens which has been rectified with the purchase of a AF-S VR Micro-Nikkor 105mm f/2.8 G IF-ED lens.

    • I noticed you are using several new pieces of equipment, I am a macro fan {next lens on my to get list} and I see what I am missing by not having one.
Your closeup of this shell, the detail is crisp and vibrant. You have taken a shell that no one would notice and have given it life and beauty.
This is a stunning black & white!
