Hope Street Warehouse – Downtown Los Angeles, California, USA

This is a view of one of the warehouses on South Hope Street, between 12th Street and Pico Blvd. If you’ve been following Blog-Bisogno for a while, you may have noticed that I prefer capturing these old buildings from the alley side more so than the front facade. Alleys are more interesting to me. There are always fascinating architectural oddities from behind, and most people never get to see them. That is the case in this image with the camera facing the alley.

  Hi Connie. I’m not surprised that you caught the contradiction. This warehouse is a few doors north, and on the same side of Hope Street as the Morrison Hotel built in 1914. I’m guessing every building on the block was built around that time including the warehouse. There are many visual inconsistencies in this image; the incongruity of a beautiful sky against a roof which looks like something out of a 1950’s B movie sci-fi, the juxtaposition of the crumbling vintage brick wall with 1970s earthquake retrofit plates, and the strength of the much newer wrought iron fence in the foreground, graffiti spanning several decades, and the list goes on…
