“I always thought of photography as a naughty thing to do – that was one of my favorite things about it, and when I first did it, I felt very perverse.”
It’s one of my favorites as well since it resonates with me on a very deep level. I got my first camera at around 8-9 years old and I was immediately fascinated by the naughtiness of it…a box, that if you pointed it at someone and clicked the shutter you would not only get a visage of someone but capture their heart and soul, and they didn’t seem to mind this at all. In fact, they seemed to enjoy it. This made me feel perverse…and perversion felt good.

I love this quote by Arbus. It’s always been one of my favorites. It can apply to so many things other than photography.
