Field of Yellow

Field of YellowField of Yellow – Jaeju-do, South Korea

This image was taken on the island of Jae Ju do in the Korea Strait. The largest of all the Korean islands, Jeju-do is volcanic with the caldera located just about dead center. All walls and fences on Jae Ju do, such as the one pictured above, are made from the abundant volcanic rock found there. What caught my eye about this scene was the way the yellow rapeseed flowers were starkly juxtaposed with the black volcanic rock.

Nikon N6006 SLR, AF Nikkor 24mm f/2.8D, Nikkor MC-20 remote cable, Manfrotto 3221 tripod, Manfrotto 3047 studio head.

  1. Thank you for your nice comment. It was an experience that I now treasure. I was dying to take photographs on the mountain, but the fog was so heavy that visibility was just about zero. I was running out of time so I moved on to Ilchulbong and U-do which I really wanted to see also. Next time!

I love the N6006 and still have it although I have to admit it is on a shelf collecting dust these days. My current camera is a Nikon D3.

    Thanks for stopping by!

  2. Hi Naughty,

It was quite an adventure! I always wanted to see Korea and I knew some people in Soul. I had six weeks to go anywhere I wanted and took full advantage of it. Would love to go back some day, but there are so many other places to see.

You are right about the D3 being built for speed. It is probably the fastest camera out there, great for events and runway fashion shows. It is also so much more than that. The D3 produces beautiful files. I do wish I had a D3X also for the larger file sizes, 24 MP as compared to 12 MP for the D3, but could not justify the expense.

Thank you for your comment. Feel free to subscribe to Blog-Bisogno (click subscribe at the top of the page) if you like.

  3. Hi there

for me Korea looks so far away, thats why I am impressed. It has different culture, nature, environment, customs! You must have taken quite a number of photos

Is there a D3X at last? because D3 has 12 MP size as I also know. Yes, I will subscribe soon

  4. Korea is 11 hours by plane from LA. I seem to do my best shooting when I don’t understand the language and/or I am totally lost. It puts me in the zone for some reason. Korea has a great culture and people. Seoul is a large cosmopolitan city. Drive 50 miles out of town and it’s like going back 100 years (in rural areas).

The D3X came out about six months after I bought my D3, but I’m not complaining about it. I love my D3. 🙂

    What camera do you have?

  5. what you write here is quite interesting
    and extremely adventurous and intense!

and yes I suppose korea is a country of great differences

I have a Pentax K-x 12.4 MP, but I am very amateur in photography
I like it, but I really dont have much time
And in photography, you must be dedicated to be good

you travel a lot I suppose

  6. That is a nice camera. It should do you well.

I could expand on that and say you must be dedicated to be good at any endeavor. I had to make that choice and decided to zero in on photography and painting.

I don’t travel all that much. You can find a good subject anywhere if you have the vision. See View From My Window http://wp.me/pAnZn-Uw. I didn’t even have to leave my loft for that one!

  8. As long as you have fun with photography. That’s what counts.

Thank you very much. That is what I go for. Capturing what is atmospheric, or the vibe as they say.

I hate to admit it, but I would have to say, YES!!!!!!!!! 😦

  9. yes, mission at LA river gardens is good, very good I would say.
I also read the comments about the specifications of the picture etc.

Pity, I am too far away to take one print.

I like atmospheric environment in a picture. It adds mystery and drives the thought to new areas.
My profession is such, that I meet with heights often 🙂

  10. That is why all of my images are a signed and numbered limited edition of 50 prints plus 4-5 artist’s proofs, and come with a certificate of authenticity which details how the print was made and what materials were used.

Print No. 1/50 of View From My Window is on Hahnemuhle Fine Art Paper as the rest of the edition will be. Hahnemuhle is a German company that has been making paper since 1584.

  11. then I wish you one day to paint the remarkable Mediterranean sea, taken from the top of a sicilian mountain (Etna?), the exact time when the sun disappears far in the horizon and all the shades of red and orange cover the sky!

    It is quite late
    goodnight
