Mission at Los Angeles River Center and Gardens
This little enclave, cloistered behind large ivy covered walls and snuggled up against the Los Angeles River is quite hard to find. I’m guessing most Angelinos do not even know it exists. At 570 West Avenue 26 Los Angeles, CA 90065, in the neighborhood of Cypress Park just minutes from downtown, it was originally built to house the headquarters for Lawry’s Products, Inc. (of seasoned salt fame). By the 1990’s the gardens and its structures had fallen into disrepair and was scheduled to be demolished in 1998. The local community fought to save it and won.
