I spent the night curled up in the fetal position trying to sleep inside a borrowed Hyundai and was up before dawn to climb the mountain to the Temples of Bulguksa, one of the holiest places in S. Korea. I found this tranquil scene along the way.

I was always wondering if the result of a picture to the viewers is what the photographer wants us to see or what our soul creates. In this picture I realized that they are both. Because the quality and sincerity of your work made our soul start working. Very good job.

GOLLY!!! breathtaking beautiful, absolutely stunning, I could get lost in the serenity of this place. I am positive this must have been a very, very moving place to see in real life. Thank you Marina. Bulguksa (불국사 is a special place for me. There are holy places in Korea that have a very discernible vibe to them. This is one of those places. Being on the top of a mountain, you have to work a little to get there. It’s not steep, but the trail is long. Well worth it though.
This image was captured about halfway up the mountain…a beautiful place to take a break and relax. Why did I leave? Someone very dear to me was having their birthday party, and I only had a few days to get back to Seoul.
Bulguksa (불국사 is a UNSCO World Heritage Site.

Will you go back? Do you speak their language?
When you look at your photos especially these which have special meaning for you, do they invoke memories of how you felt what you were experiencing or thinking at that time, etc?

“Will you go back?” That’s a great question Marina. I truly love S. Korea and its people. It has a special place in my heart, but there are so many other places to see in this world and I know that I am always most creative in a place that I have never been before.
I speak just enough Korean to get into trouble. 🙂 It’s a great icebreaker and makes everyone laugh. People always appreciate it when you at least make an attempt to speak their language.
Yes, the images do invoke memories that take me back to a specific moment in time and how I felt at that moment. This is very nice, however the first time you look at your film or digital capture you must look with a very critical eye putting all sentimentality aside. When it comes to editing your work, you have to be brutally honest with yourself.

sukiyama02. I’m glad you like this image. Sensors in DSLR cameras gather light, but they are capable of so much more. They can also gather emotions…such as serenity.
