Ansel Adams

“I held Ansel’s ass while he made that picture!”

Harold Saville

“When my father made that picture, Banner Peak” said Michael Adams, son of Ansel Adams, “he was traveling with his friend Harold Saville. They had a burro to carry their equipment. Ansel took pictures, and Harold held the donkey. When the Banner Peak photo became famous, Harold loved telling everybody, ‘I held Ansel’s ass while he made that picture!’ Harold loved that story. And now I can say I’ve seen the place where Harold held Ansel’s ass!”

      • Ansel has been a great influence on me, and now I’m planning on building a platform on the roof of my Xterra. I can never seem to get the camera high enough for photographing landscapes and buildings in Downtown Los Angeles. Building a rooftop platform has been in my head for quite awhile now, but seeing this picture of Ansel has driven the idea home.
