wow, that is amazing. Man but digital is getting expensive, with all these new products.

    • I know. It’s getting insane, but the D800 is a lot of bang for the buck. Here’s something I wrote on other social media:

Once you consider the specs of this camera, your realize it is dirt cheap at $3,000 for the D800 and $3,300 for the D800e. With 36.3 MP, it is in the ballpark as far as pixel count with medium format digital cameras costing $20,000-$45,000. That kind of expense does not fit my ROI so I use a Mamiya RZ 67 Pro ll medium format film camera when I need that kind of resolution. Every photo used gets drum scanned at $70.00-$85.00/scan. Add film and processing and you’re looking at $100.00 per image. That said, the D800 is a very cheap camera for what it is.

  10. Man, I wish I had something like this but alas way out of my budget! SIGH!!

    • Don’t worry Marina. You don’t really need that much resolution anyway. Feel better now? Probably not! :-)

I’m gonna have to wait awhile too.

      • It would be nice to have something better that my Canon digital but I can change from regular to micro to infinity so I guess it is not all that bad and I don’t need to change lens or remember the F stops {they are on the camera but I will need to find the manual} Oh well better than nothing.

      • Hi Marina. You seem to be doing quite well with what you have. With my type of photography, the most important creative decision is depth of field. For this reason, I am in Aperture Priority program mode 95% of the time. If your Canon has an Aperture Priority program mode, consider using it. You may not want the camera to make this decision for you.

      • I am going out shortly to shoot some more as it snowed last night and I have a park that I have done hundreds of colour shots in so now I will recreate in b&w and maybe set up some comparison shots to see how different they look.

      • You can also convert the color files you already have to b&w with an image editor if you like.

  11. Check out my new header!!!!

  12. Where/how do I get that??????

  13. Adobe Photoshop CS5 is what I use for color to b&w conversions. Adobe Photoshop Elements is a less expensive stripped down version of CS5, and there is also Adobe Lightroom. There are probably smaller, even less expensive solutions with less of a learning curve, but I am not aware of them.

  14. Picasa seems to have something built in to it I have my pictures stored there do you think it might work for now?
